One Step Too Close is our sixth M/M biker-themed book, but as we talked about all of them one thing became clear: in none of our earlier novels did both the MCs belong to a biker club. So far, one of the characters was either related to a biker (Lucky in The Devil’s Ride), gravitating to the club because of business (Zak in Road of No Return and Jason in Bare-knuckle Love), or just a guy who happened to fall for an MC member (Loki in Red Hot  and Luca in No Matter What). This new book on the other hand will explore the love between two bikers from the same club.

Ryder and Jed are not only brothers in arms, they were also both raised by Ryder’s father, which makes them stepbrothers, but a taboo relationship like theirs becomes even more difficult in a homophobic environment. They are both very masculine, but they express it in different ways. Ryder is calmer, more focused on the greater good and prepared to make tough decisions. Jed, on the other hand, is aggressive and reckless, always in trouble, and always on the radar of his helicopter brother 😉

None of them ever had any experience with gay men, and being raised in a very patriarchal environment casts a shadow on their budding relationship. They aren’t sure how a gay relationship is supposed to work, and they only have a vague understanding of sex between men, overshadowed by stereotypes that they will need to challenge. But no matter how hard they try and how strong their love is, the fear of being discovered is always somewhere in the back of their minds.

The small biker club is like a family, and so everyone is under close scrutiny. When a man suddenly loses interest in women, even if there are plenty female hangarounds eager for his attention, it is not something that will go unnoticed. And how will they keep their relationship secret when on a long run with the whole club? Sleeping in close quarters and lack of any time alone is dangerous territory. Any stolen kiss or a glance that lasts a bit too long can be subject to uncomfortable questions, so how will Jed and Ryder cope with all that?

I enjoy writing about couples who have to withstand many storms, because each time they survive, their bond becomes stronger. It would have been easier if they could just leave the club, but what if it’s the only family they have? How can they live the biker lifestyle while keeping true to themselves? To work things out, Jed and Ryder might have to come all-too-close to the brink of danger.

— One love. One motorcycle club. Two stepbrothers. —

Ryder. Controlling. Ambitious. Protective.

Jed. Self-destructive. Trapped. Lonely.

Their love? Forbidden. Taboo. All-consuming.

For Jed, the Coffin Nails Motorcycle Club is family. With them, he learned how to think, what to enjoy, and how to fight, but there is one thing he knows his friends can’t find out about. They would never accept him as gay, and so his life is a constant struggle with desires that fill him with despair. Only there is a much darker secret lurking in Jed’s heart. His feelings for his stepbrother, Ryder, go far beyond brotherly. Trapped with a yearning that can never be fulfilled, Jed spirals out of control and unwillingly puts the love of his life in danger.

Ryder is climbing up in the ranks. Recently promoted to Sergeant-at-arms, he has it all: drive, respect, and the love of his biker family. When his stepbrother gets into trouble with the law, Ryder decides to take the blame and save him from a long sentence. Deep inside, he knows there is nothing he wouldn’t do for Jed, but through a desperate attempt to suppress his own hidden desires, he might irreversibly break the man he secretly loves.

But finding out what they feel for each other will test their loyalty to the Coffin Nails MC and change their lives for ever.

Give yourselves a pat on the back for this one, it was one of the best (and that’s saying something considering the competition amongst your other books).

One Step Too Close is one of my favorite books so far. One of the major reasons is the fact both characters grew us in the mc world and had no idea how to handle their emotional feelings toward each other. These are characters I would like to know more about in upcoming books. I want to know how they are handling life together.

Bobbie, So happy to hear that! It was such a different book to write with both the guys bikers, and with such a strong bond as well.

I’ve read The Devils Ride: Coffin Nails MC and am thrilled. Unfortunately, there are only two of your books translated into german. Pleeeeeease make sure your other books are published in germany.
